Roughriders Face Challenge | State Recap

Jamel, Matthew, Sean, Malcolm, Derek, Andrew, Abraham & Coach

Each year at the Washington Cross Country championships, runners leave the Sun Willows Golf Course--site for the meet--scratching their heads wondering what they could have done to improve their lot. The course is beautiful, but deceptively challenging. Its continuous undulations and spongy surface are typically nothing most runners have experienced all season . . . until the end. On Saturday, Andrew and Abraham joined 150 runners for the concluding WIAA meet of the season. They looked good throughout the race but were unable to crack the top 50. Both runners will return next year for an opportunity to compete with Washington's best cross country athletes.

Results can be found here.
Pictures of the meet can be found here.

STATE 2007 | Preview

The Seattle Times published a brief "State Meet At a Glance" this morning and included a short article about the Redmond girl's team. With the loss of the Eastside and South King County Journals this year, the cross country coverage in the area has been pitiful. The Washington Runners Web site has been a great addition with nice contributions from various cross country enthusiasts in the state. This Pasco Cross Country Facts is a nice compendium of teams competing at this years' meet.

According to Weather Underground , the conditions during the day should be nearly ideal with the high temperature reaching 58 degrees.

State Bid Falls Short

The KingCo Conference representatives at the District 2/4 cross country meet this past Saturday made quite a statement by finishing in the top 6 positions. Unfortunately for the Roughriders, they needed to finish in the top 4 to make it to Pasco next week and fell short by 6 points. Individual qualifiers included Abraham and Andrew who finished with the identical time of 16:39. The full results can be found here.

Three seniors--Ben, Sean, and Malcolm--ran their last RHS XC race and gave it their best. They won't be forgotten any time soon. It's now up to the younger members of the team to step up and get the team over the hump next year so they can return to Pasco.

Keep returning to this page for new photos, links, and information about summer XC camps. Stay tuned!

Good luck at State, Abraham and Andrew! Go Riders!

The RHS XC boys returned home from Lakewood Saturday with some individual PRs, but without the double championships they earned last year. The Roughriders young team showed they are learning, though. The varsity finished 11th, but the JV captured 4th and the frosh-soph team 9th. The individual results can be found on the athletic.net Web site by clicking the link on the right. Free parking is available off of 50th NE just west of Aurora in a large dirt parking lot that sometimes serves as Woodland Park Zoo's auxiliary parking. Watch for runners as you turn into the lot.

KingCo Preview Results

This season the race results will be available at the RHS athletic.net Web site (http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/School.aspx?SchoolID=498). The reason for posting there is so runners can see their results on one page. By clicking on a runner's name, you will be able to view up-to-date accomplishments for each individual. Let me know what you think of using this site compared to the way it was done last season.

The overall results for the Preview meet indicated strong performances for the Riders. In particular sophomores Ben Carpenter, Matthew Gross and freshman Daniel Swanson ran very well for an early season meet.
